Kiwanis Club of Litchfield Awards Scholarships -  5/13/2010
The Kiwanis Club of Litchfield awarded scholarships to five Millennium High School Graduates on Thursday, May 13.  Other awards received by these scholars were:
  • Jackie Sanchez  - Raceway Elks Lodge Scholarship, MHS Awards/Recognition HIgh Honors Tuition Scholarship, National Honor Society Scholarship
  • Hezikiah O'Neal  -  Lynda DeBaeery Memorial and Estrella Rotary Club Scholarships
  • Austin Buben  -  MHS Awards/Recognition Culinary Arts, MHS Awards/Recognition

Litchfield Park run, walk celebrated cancer survivors, victims -  3/6/2010

The Kiwanis/Litchfield Park 10K, 5K, 1 Mile Fun Run and a Celebration of Life Walk will was held on Saturday, March 6, to celebrate cancer survivors and in memory of loved ones.

The City of Litchfield Park hosted the celebration. Proceeds from the runs went to the Friends of the Rec, a non-profit organization that encourages youth and family social and recreational activities in Litchfield Park, and the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life. The runs went south down Old Litchfield Road

Kiwanis Club of Litchfield Recognized as Distinguished Club -  2/11/2010
Kiwanis Club of Litchfield President, John Mullen, presented the Board of Directors the Distinguished Club Certificate he received last night at the SW District Division 13 meeting.  To qualify, a club must excel in service, leadership education, and growth.


Club Members Tour EMCC's New Nursing Labs -  1/28/2010

The new adult and baby SIMS (Simulated Instructional Manikin System) manikins simulate a range of medical conditions and respond just like human patients, providing a truly interactive learning environment. 2010 Kiwanis Fishing Derby a Success -  1/16/2010
The 2010 Kiwanis Fishing Derby at Tierra Verde Lake in Litchfield Park took place on Saturday, January 16th.  Proceeds from annual fundraiser went to support the Litchfield Park Recreation Center.


A new concept in education is headed to the West Valley -  12/17/2009
The 12-year-old Arizona Agribusiness and Equine Center District plans to open a college preparatory high school next to Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale.

The district operates charter public schools at three other community colleges - Mesa, South Mountain and Paradise Valley. "Our next major expansion is to the West Valley," Superintendent William Torres Conley said at the Kiwanis Club of Litchfield meeting Thursday evening.

Kiwanis Club of Litchfield Hosts Christmas Party for Kids -  12/9/2009
The Kiwanis Club of Litchfield held its annual Christmas Party for local special needs children on Wednesday, December 9 at Corte Sierra Elementary School.  Santa gave presents to over 100 children and 20 teachers.


Kiwanis Club of Litchfield Prepares for Annual Christmas Party for Special Needs Children -  12/3/2009
Kiwanis Club of Litchfiled Members work with local Key Club Members to purchase presents for local special needs children at Toys 'R Us in Goodyear.  The Annual Christmas Party will take place at Corte Sierra School at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, December 9th.

Kiwanians Donate Turkeys & Fixings to Luke AFB Families -  11/23/2009
Litchfield Kiwanians under the leadership of John Mullen, Merle Ellsworth and David Schwake, helped deliver 80 frozen turkeys, together with stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, bread and cookies, to families of Air Force personnel deployed overseas, at Luke AFB, Glendale, AZ, on Monday, November 23, 2009.  Photo Credit: Harry Ingholt


Hawaiian Island Archeology Presentation -  11/19/2009

The Kiwanis Club of Litchfield welcomed James Workman--Realtor, Retired Pharma Representative, longtime resident of Hawaii, avid SCUBA enthusiast and collector of Hawaiian Island archeological information and artifacts.

Make a Difference Day -  10/24/2009
Kiwanis Club of Litchfield members Ginger Butler (Left) and Janette Mooroian, were among 14 Kiwanians who joined forces with the local Rotary Clubs to help Make a Difference for the families at the New Life Women's Shelter.  Local Key Club members also assisted in making a sandbox and completing other various projects for this special shelter.


Lie Detector Night -  10/22/2009
David Moore from the Phoenix Police Department demonstrates modern techniques in lie detection at the October 22nd meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Litchfield.  Member Joe Avery was a good sport to be subjected to "interrogation."

10 New Members Inducted -  10/1/2009

Ten new members were inducted into the Kiwanis Club of Litchfield by Immediate Past-President Mehrl Ellsworth on Thursday, October 1.  The new members are: Joe Avery, Bill Gaines, Cathy Gaines, Ron Hansen, Oscar Lobo, Don Pocock, Mike Todd, Eddie Williams, Al Williamson, and Roger Yohe. Division 13 Lt. Governor, Muriel Lundy welcomed the new members and then inducted the new officers and board members for the 2009-2010 administrative year.  Immediate Past-President Lt.

Kiwanians and Key Club Members Assist at Luke Triathlon -  9/19/2009
Kiwanis Club of Litchfield President-Elect John Mullen and Kiwanian Mike Todd are assisted by Key Club members from Desert Edge and Millennium High Schools at the Luke Triathlon on Saturday, September 19. They delivered 175 bottles of water and 96 bottles of Gatorade (thanks to Davie Schwake) for free to the participants at a hydration station.  They also helped to register the athletes, man the street intersections, provide directions, and help wherever needed from 5:45 am-10:00(more)


Kiwanians Continue Work at Natalie's House -  9/19/2009
During the past few months, Kiwanis Club of Litchfield members have been adding electrical work for Natalie's House.  When completed, this eight-bed home in Arizona will offer a safe haven for girls (ages 11-17) escaping from commercial sexual exploitation and abuse. 

Pictured here is Dave Onstad, one of the project's leaders, who has been instrumental in obtaining the equipment, supplies and volunteers for this major club venture.

Auga Fria Superintendent Dennis Runyan Addresses Club -  9/17/2009
Dr. Dennis Runyan, Interim Superintendent of Agua Fria Union High School District, updated the Kiwanis Club of Litchfield club members on current happenings with the District, including the process in searching for a permanent superintendent.  Dr. Runyan invited club members to read his biweekly newsletter.


Cancer Survivors Tell Their Story -  9/17/2009
Reg McCormick and Mike Woodward shared their stories about dealing with cancer.  They are community volunteers dedicated to helping others with cancer.  Reg briefly told members that his cancer was completely avoidable if he listened to his doctor.  Mike is on the Board for the local Cancer Center Treatment Center in Goodyear (CTCA).  He shared the unique philosophy on how the staff at the CTCA treats patients as if they were their own mothers.


Kiwanis Club of Litchfield Tours SW Family YMCA -  9/10/2009
Members of the Kiwanis Club of Litchfield receive a tour the Southwest Valley Family YMCA in Goodyear by Executive Director Ron Sikes during the September Board Meeting.  The Club donated $100,000 for the slide shown in the background.  Board Members approved the 2009-2010 budget during the business meeting.

City of Litchfield Park Honors Kiwanis Club -  9/9/2009
City of Litchfield Park Mayor Thomas Schoaf recognized the Kiwanis Club of Litchfield for many years of contributions and support, and recognized them as an Outstanding and Valued Community Partner at the City Council Meeting on September 9, 2009.
